WELCOME TO VALAMO
Valamo Monastery is situated in the municipality of Heinävesi, close to trunk road no. 23 from Varkaus to Joensuu and beside the clear waters of Lake Juojärvi. It is easy to reach by bus, train or private car and is about 60 km away from the nearest airport, in Joensuu. It is also possible to buy complete package tours to the monastery by bus.
Its unique surroundings, peaceful atmosphere and comprehensive restaurant and accommodation services make the monastery an attractive tourist destination where it is pleasant to stay on for some days. Attention has been paid to both children and the physically handicapped when planning its amenities. The monastery is open every day of the year and no entry fee is charged.
